Sister-Friend
by D. Villena-Mata

Friendships
are ships that hold people's love
for one another and frustrations too
as we journey together
from one seaport to another.

In friends
we see ourselves,
our strengths and our frailties.

We learn from each other,
our own inner beauty
as the other sees and mirrors it back to us.

We learn that our ghosts and dark areas
were not so bad that a little Light wouldn't hurt
to have it reveal
how much strength and humour we had all along to get through it all.

Friends also tell us what "it is."
Aspects of truth and such are shared
in a way that warms our heart,
not thrashing our beingness.

Friends share who they are
and invite us to do the same.

Friends bring out the best in both of us
and forgive us when we are harsh
with ourselves and each other.

Comadres,
Sister-friend, "homiecita"
Running buddy, and soul traveler are special friends
that touch the heart of both this body's existence
and of the soul's various journeys throughout time and space.

Time, laughter, tears, joy, sadness
embraces and belly laughs
characterize some of what friends do with each other.

Most important of all,
friends help each other be more of who we always been and are
and love us.
