InnerMidst Magazine
Issue Six, 2001 - Page 1
From the Editor:
Welcome dear readers to the sixth issue of InnerMidst magazine!
Due to the tragedies of September 11, 2001, we decided to do a special issue regarding its effects. Under "Features" you will find stories written by a WTC survivor (David Frank) and a Pentagon witness (Chloe Mata) and her thoughts as she later travelled across country, as well as other writers whose lives have been affected. Under "HealthShare," articles discussing different healing approaches are offered which you may find useful. Under "Spirit to Spirit," words of spirituality, reflection, and prayers are offered to us all.
This issue took time in the making, as authors were slow to submit articles due to the emotions unleashed in the writing. For me, I found myself inundated with phone calls, emails, and clients, where I provided educational information on trauma and healing modes (my doctorate is in this field) as well as provided consultation to clinicians, who needed assistance with traumatized clients. A good amount of clinicians are not trained in trauma, especially in societal trauma. Secondary trauma or witness trauma is the most common kind that most people are experiencing due to the 9.11 attacks and the scare of biological warfare. Therefore, I felt that InnerMidst should include in this special issue articles on trauma, and in particular, "fight, flight, freeze" reactions.
May you find this issue useful and thought-provoking. Now more than ever, people's hearts, compassion, nonjudgment, and thoughtful assessments are needed. Time as an ally is needed if we are to find solutions and walk upon the paths of healing.
Many blessings to all of you and your beloveds.
