What Will Rule Our Hearts?

Sounds bursting in air
showers of pulverized metals and flesh
a dark cloud coming from hell
descending and rushing in enormous scale
toward those before it
Darkness falls
and the Light obliterated

Only gray skies
and gray lungs
breathe

what do we say about the innocents?
that IT was for a greater cause?

where is the circle of life?

who is the devil? who is the angel?
us?
them?
no one?
all of us?

where is the intelligence and compassion
that can inspire and lead us
out of this realm, this vortex that
beckon us to join in the devilry and taste for blood?

if the parents are slaughtered and their cultures destroyed or humiliated
will the orphans--the children of the slaughtered
grow up and seek vengeance?

will genocide result so no more ghosts, no more soldiers be born?

How do we embrace our enemy?
Yet
Not be a fool
not be abused?
But neither be the abuser
and the co-dancer of violence?

Do we have the conviction to follow our spiritual faith?
What image of God do we have?
What image did God have in mind when Spirit made us?

I thought it was love.

Will the devil be instilled in us because of 9.11?
will the devil rule our hearts or emotions?

where is the circle of life?
what stories will we tell our descendants?
what freedoms and choices will we leave for them and us?
which ones will we forever through fear relinquish
in the name of immediate security?

will we have the long-sightedness and
The courage in the Being
for,
from the Being
comes the true Doing

will we be the Light or angels' messengers?
or the devil's pawns to continue the cycle of trauma?

Will we address the core or the symptoms of grief and rage?

What will rule our hearts?
