ON THE SPOT
...with A WINDOW BETWEEN WORLDS

"A Window Between Worlds is a non-profit program dedicated to using art to help end the cycle of domestic violence. Through creative expression, battered women and children recover a sense of renewal and power. Their images of hope, survival and strength educate the public and become "a window between worlds" for survivors taking steps to change their lives."

Walking through a home
full of hate,
anger, jealousy, evil.
Looking forward to the future
without shedding so many tears,
with God as my strength.

Caminando por un hogar lleno de odio,
iras, celos y maldad. Mirando hacia el futuro
sin derramar tantas lagrimas,
con Dios como mi fuerza.

Those who have experienced violence in their lives have been enchained to see imagination as a tool only to create safety and escape routes, and maybe if time permitted, to daydream of better moments. Those have been so affected by violence toward their heart and mind, can have the support to see their imagination as a means to help their souls soar once again and see life as more than existence. Imagination through art can help release the pain, embrace the strength that has always been there but not noticed, create new ways of thinking and coping, and inform all of us of the need to support in whatever fashion those who wish to seek life over existence. The people at AWBW help not only those who have been directly affected by violence but they also provide support to organizations who assist women and children escaping violence.
